Pigeon is a really sweet and pleasant model. It has been great working with her. I am still working on a larger size study of her that includes the whole figure.

Selena

Here is my painting from the last 2 weeks of June. It measures 24 x 24" and is oil on board*.

*It is actually a board that I had my dad mount on stretcher bars, super heavy.

I'm starting to think I should just stick to boards because I love how I can push the paint around really easy. hmmm...

Esteban

Here is the painting from June week one and two. When I bring my paint box back home I might work on the shadow side of his face a bit more, some of the browns in there are a bit harsh.

Tonight is the last night for the current painting I am working on. Wish me luck :)

Summer Class Day 1 - about a 2 hour study

Here's my first painting from the Summer session. This is definitely one that I will be painting on top of, but I wanted to post it to see if any progress will occur over the next 3 months. Next week I will posting the painting I just finished this past Friday (a 9 day pose).

Friday, June 10, 2011

Cleared out some wall space in my studio for some new paintings! I will be posting all my Summer paintings as I go along.

Sal / the Italian artist Pietro Annigoni related?

This painting always reminds me of him. You can see more of Pietro's artwork here.

2 day pose - oil on linen

Here is one of the paintings I made during the Max Ginsburg workshop held March 7-11 2011 at the Art Students League. I was lucky enough to be the monitor for this workshop. It was my first time monitoring a class on my own and I had a great time! It was also my first time using a linen painting surface, I loved the finer texture!

Esteban & Leticia August 2010

I just noticed that I never posted the final of this painting that I did last summer.

What I learned from this painting:

1. Never paint this much black in a painting because it creates a horrible glare.

2. Painting more than one person from life that are constantly making tiny shifts is a nightmare. For example the cast shadow on his back was always different and I ended up painting it over a ton of times.

3. Wear a hat so you don't get a headache from staring up at lights.

4. Know when to quit before it gets overworked and boring.

"The Binghamton Ferry" 6" x 12"

My first painting outing of the year- Sunday morning painting in NJ with my classmate Marina, her husband, and Sal.

What I learned from this outing:

1. Do not set up in the sun in August even if you have a sun hat on.
2. Do not wear tight jeans and black shoes.
3. Bring purple paint/ invest in a good purple paint (perhaps Schmincke cobalt violet light & deep?).
4. Bring snacks and water.
5. I need to make my compositions better, maybe do sketches on paper first then start painting.

W.I.P. Esteban and Leticia

Here is a work in progress of the painting I am currently working on. I took this photo at the end of week one of a three week pose. This is the first time (I think) that I am painting 2 models interacting this closely, so I'm definitely going to need the 2 more weeks to finish this up.

Apologies for the crappy photo.

On Friday we had a little party for my teacher's 79th birthday so I thought it would be funny to have one of his sayings put on a cake-
for my teacher's birthday
He always says,"Don't be creative, paint what you see!".

My teacher saw my palette and flipped out because it was so messy. I will be spending my afternoon trying to scrub out a clean spot in the center with some sandpaper.
